The Dodge Durango SRT is the type of SUV you could never see in Europe
Dodge really wanted an SUV with the look and power of a supercar. That’s how the Durango SRT performance version, powered by 475 horsepower, was born.
Americans have a passion for big and powerful cars. So, beyond generous dimensions, we often find an extremely powerful engine. This is the case for the Dodge Durango SRT, a car that would almost be impossible to find on the European market, where a 475-horsepower Hemi V8 engine would be a real blasphemy for pollution.
For those who are not familiar with the Dodge range, it’s enough to say that the Durango SRT is the fastest giant ever created by Dodge. Moreover, according to officials, it is the fastest seven-seater SUV in America.
It is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in about 4.5 seconds. The quarter mile, a unit of measure specific to the Americans, can be traveled in just 12.9 seconds.
In addition to the muscle-car engine borrowed from Charger, the Durango SRT also receives an eight-speed automatic transmission that calculates grip, lateral and longitudinal forces, and power levels before changing to the right gear. There are two special modes. The first is Sport and reduces the transmission shifting time by 50% and sends 65% of the resources to the rear axle. The second is Track Mode and is noticeable by a gear shift with 70% faster, in just 160 milliseconds. With all these, there is also an Eco mode, but also for tow or snow.
The comfort is provided by Bilstein adaptive shock absorbers and more rigid components of the suspension. Behind the rims are hidden Brembo brakes with six and four pistons respectively.
In the case of such a beast, it matters less what we find beyond the window, but Dodge was also concerned about the comfort of his passengers. There are digital board instruments, a 8.4 inch central screen, Apple CarPLay connection and Android Auto.
