Fiat Chrysler unveiled its new Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV
It is the first time that Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV has third row of seats
The Grand Cherokee L marks the fifth-generation of the SUV since its debut as a two-row vehicle nearly 30 years ago.
The new three-row SUV is available in Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit models.
Fiat Chrysler said the three-row vehicle goes on sale in the second quarter, followed later in the year by the two-row and plug-in models.
The 2021 Grand Cherokee L can be :
- standard – with a 3.6-liter V8 engine with 290 horsepower and 257 lb.-ft. of torque.
- or a 5.7-liter V8 engine rated at 357 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque and a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive.
Fiat Chrysler hopes that the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will widen the vehicle’s appeal in an increasingly competitive SUV market. “There is high-demand in a Grand Cherokee three-row. We know we are going to do extremely well,” Christian Meunier, Jeep’s global president, said during a press briefing.
Grand Cherokee L Laredo will cost approximately 39,000 USD. This is the base model. It has cloth seats, a manually adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel with electronic paddle shifters, a six-speaker audio system, 12 USB ports. It’s equipped with LED reflector headlights with amber running lights and LED taillights. It sits on 18-inch silver wheels wrapped in Michelin Primacy XC or Primacy LTX all-season tires. All-wheel drive is optional.
The Limited model will cost around 45,000 USD and it has a little more sophistication, such as leather seats and upholstery, a driver’s seat with memory. The steering wheel is heated, as well as the second row of seats. Fog lights are standard. It has 18-inch wheels wrapped in standard Michelin Primacy XC or Primacy LTX all-season tires. Like the Laredo, all-wheel drive is also optional.
As regards the four-wheel-drive Overland model (approx 50,000 USD), it has a panoramic sunroof as standard, 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone Ecopia all-season tires. Mention should be made of the fact that the four-wheel-drive Overland has a two-speed active transfer case. It also features an adaptive air suspension with five modes.
Summit is the top of the line model (price around 55,000 USD) and the most luxurious Grand Cherokee. Seats are in Palermo leather, front seats have memory and massage. Summit models with four-wheel drive get the electronic rear limited-slip differential standard as well as hill descent control and the adaptive air suspension.
Fiat Chrysler said the new Grand Cherokee will offer hands-free driving technology in late-2021 on 2022 model-year vehicles.
