BMW X2 may receive a new engine: 4-cylinder propulsion unit and 300 HP

BMW X2 will receive in the following years a brand new 4-cylinder engine capable of generating aproximatelly 300 HP, according to recent information information.

The propulsion unit will be subsequently available also on BMW X1, Series 1 and Series 2 Gran Coupe.

BMW X2 which was launched only one month ago, in a wide range of engines, of which the most powerful is equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo engine capable of generating 231 HP and 350 Nm of torque.

The propulsion unit is available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and this model also benefits from an xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s newest SUV is about to receive, in the not-too-distant future, a significantly stronger engine.

According to some sources quoted on BMWBlog, the German SUV will be powered by a 4-cylinder engine, derived from the current B48 propulsion unit. This engine will generate circa 300 horsepower and it may be coupled either with a manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The above-mentioned source claims that the engine on BMW X2 will be also shared with the smaller X1, and also on 1 Series and 2 Series models. Furthermore, these two last models would make the switch to front-wheel drive instead of the existing rear-wheel drive. The models equipped with the new propellant will be easily identifiable by the 35i at the end.
