Specializing in high performance luxury vehicle, Porsche AG is a German automotive brand headquartered in Stuttgart. Porsche exists as a subsidiary of the Volkswagen AG.
In 1931, Ferdinand Porsche put the base of what was known as the “Dr. Ing. H. c. F. Porsche GmbH”. The company was initially intended to offer automotive consultancy without actually building any cars under its name.
The first time Porsche was commissioned to build a car, the company had to build a people’s car, as required by the German government. The car was literally named “Volkswagen” and was the Volkswagen Beetle. The 1939 Porsche 64 used plenty of the design cues found on the Beetle.
As the post-war era started, Porsche cars made significant impressions in the racing world with the 550 Spyder model. However, as the old Porsche 356 model was in desperate need of a redesign, the company launched the iconic Porsche 911. It featured an air-cooled, rear-placed 6-cylinder boxer engine. The 911 became and is today Porsche’s best-known model. Alongside, the French automaker developed racing models such as the 904, 906 and 908.
During the 90s, Porsche adhered to Toyota’s Japanese manufacturing methods in order to boost production and increase quality. Half of Porsche’s annual output was provided by the introduction of the 2002 Porsche Cayenne SUV. On the other hand, two years later, Porsche introduced its most expensive model to that date, the 612 bhp Carrera GT (450.000 EUR).
Entering the hybrid drivetrain era, Porsche released the Cayenne S Hybrid in 2010 and also announced a hybrid version of the Panamera S. It all culminated with the introduction of the Porsche 918 in 2014 The Porsche 918 is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.-6-liter V8 and develops a total of 887hp with help from two electric motors. Only 918 units were built and the sale price revolved around the 611.000 EUR figure.
