The American car brand Jeep was founded in 1943 as part of the American Motors Corporation and was later on acquired by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Group). Over its history, the Jeep brand was known to provide off-road and sports utility vehicles as well as a limited run of pickup trucks.
The first Jeep models were built as order from the United States Military as it was inevitable that the US were about to intervene in the European theatre of operations during the second World War. The product was named Model MB and Model GPW respectively; the first were built by Willys-Overland while the latter were made by Ford but still using the Willys engine.
After the war was over, various car makers took the design of the Jeep and rendered under license; such brands include Delahaye, Mitsubishi Motors and even Toyota. As of 1st of February 1950, more chassis and cab designs were researched by Jeep and new models were to appear on the market. Among these are included the CJ-V35/U and the 1965 M715 model, both ordered for military usage.
The first Jeep car model to be available for civilian use was the CJ-2A, released in 1945, with newer versions in 1949 and 1953. These particular models are called flat-fenders. Their fenders were flat as with the models previously used by the military.
Fast forwarding, more recent models of the Jeep include the SJ series with a wagon, Cherokee (full-size SUV) and pickup design.
The Cherokee was launched for the first time in 1874 then switched to the newer version in 1984. The best-known model produced by jeep is probably the Wrangler. Launched in 1987 as the Jeep Wrangler YJ, it is one of the few modern off-road vehicles to feature front and rear solid axles and have dedicated systems for heavy off-road courses through mud, rocks and snow.
