VW launches Polo GTI R5: “Very good, very quick and precise”

Months ago, Volkswagen presented its latest Polo racing car in the form of drawings. It is now that we can see it “for real”.
Polo GTI R5 is based on the new Polo GTI, although it has a smaller capacity that the 1.6 litre under the motorsports regulations, it features a four-cylinder turbo engine.
But, considering its 272 horsepower and 400 Nn of torque powered to the four wheels, is undoubtedly more powerful. It sprints from 0 to 100 km /k in 4.1 seconds, the speed is obtained through its 5-speed sequential gearbox.
Tests took place last November in Fontjoncouse, France, where the first Volkswagen Polo R WRC model was developed. Last December, the GTI R5 became available in Great Britain.
“The first test was primarily about getting a lot of kilometers under our belt, in order to give the engineers as much data as possible”, declared Dieter Depping, the 2017 rally champion. “I can tell that the R5 Polo is very good, very quick and precise. I immediately felt right at home!”
The car will be homologated in the summer of 2018, with the first customers getting the cars shortly afterwards.
