Hyundai Kona: first photos and official information
Hyundai Kona is the most recent SUV produced by the South Korean car maker. The new Hyundai Kona, together with models such as Tucson, Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe, increases the offer of the Asian carmaker in the SUV segment.
Hyundai Kona is built on a new platform and measures 4.165 mm in length, 1.800 mm in width, is 1550 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2600 mm.
Hyundai Kona comes with three engine options for sale:
- 1.0 T-GDI 120 CP /172NM, 0-100km/h in 12 seconds and top speed of 181 km/h
- 1.6T-GDI/ 177 CP/265NM, 0-100km/h in 7 seconds and top speed of 210 km/h
- 2.0-litre/149 CP/179 NM, 0-100km/h in 10 seconds and top speed of 194 km/h
For the version equipped with a 1.6T-GDI engine, transmission is ensured by an automatic gearbox with a dual-clutch (7DCT), while the 2.0-litre engine version is available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. For Europe, it will be available with 1.6-litre diesel engine. The new Hyundai Kona 4WD configuration can also be ordered.
Safety and infotainment
The new Hyundai Kona features a front camera and radar system for Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), High Beam Assist (HBA) and Driver Attention Warning (DAW) functions.
The embedded radar system on Hyundai Kona assists with the Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) to detect approaching cars that may be obscured from view by the driver while driving at a high speed. The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) function reduces the risk of collision with approaching cars when reversing the car in low visibility areas.
The Hyundai Kona is available for customers with a 5, 7 or 8 inch infotainment display and Android Auto or Apple CarPlay Apps. Moreover, a new Head-Up Display (HUD) which projects relevant driving information on a 8 inch display. Hyundai Kona comes with an optional wireless smartphone charging pad located inside the centre console.
Availability
Hyundai Kona will reach dealerships in South Korea at the end of this month and thereafter on the European market. Even though pricing details have not yet been released, it is expected that the suggested price of the new Hyundai Kona to be below the Tucson.
