Maserati Ghibli, the Italian surprise on Frankfurt auto show 2017
For the first time, Maserati has two limousines, one of which is the new Ghibli, a car built on the Quattroporte platform, competing with four-door premium models from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
The new Maserati Ghibli sport sedan – the best-selling model in the history of Maserati, with more than 70,000 cars delivered in 70 countries starting in 2013 – makes its European premiere at IAA Cars 2017 with significant external rrestyling and a rich range of hi- tech options. Two new distinctive models, GranLusso and GranSport, have been included in the range of models following a strategy inaugurated by Quattroporte in 2016. Each model uses its assets to highlight Maserati’s unique elegance and sporting performance.
Ghibli GranLusso is distinguished by the enhanced exterior and a luxurious interior withErmenegildo Zegna silk upholstery. Ghibli GranSport was designed to reflect Maserati’s racing heritage, showing the sporty exterior design and interior content. Ghibli GranLusso and GranSport are available with all versions of engines and include Adaptive full LEDs with intense Matrix light, a premiere for Maserati.
The Maserati design center in Turin gave a clear identity to each of the new models, mainly by redrawing the front and rear bumpers. These optimized aerodynamic changes enhance the sporty and luxurious style of the original. The aerodynamic efficiency of the new Ghibli improved by 7%, reducing the resistance to 0.29 from 0.31.
