The spectacular looking plug-in-hybrid coupe is entering its last year of production

There will be only 500 units available to order, just 150 of which will come to North America. Polestar 1 was always meant to be a limited-run model, with justr 1500 total earmarked for production worldwide. Now, Polestar, a super niche vehicle, with a tag of $155,000 is taking final orders.  Its 601bhp range-topper, with production of the 1 coming to an end later this year.

It’s a plug-in-hybrid, carbon-fiber-bodied, two-door coupe with concept-car looks, from a Volvo-run company that will only produce full EVs from now on.

Polestar is not making any major mechanical modifications to the 1 for 2021. Power comes from a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain built around a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s both turbocharged and supercharged. It works with a pair of electric motors – one for each rear wheel – that are linked to a 34-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The system’s total output checks in at 619 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, and it gives the coupe 60 miles of electric-only range. Polestar pegs the 1’s zero-to-60-mph at 4.2 seconds.

Just five colors are available : white, black, two grays and a dark blue.  Each shade is available in a matte finish for an extra $5,000. The exterior trim is offered in chrome or gloss black. On the inside you can get the upholstery in either black or black and white leather.
