The Italian luxury sports vehicle brand Maserati was founded on December 1st, 1914. The initial headquarters of the company was set in Bologna, but then moved to Modena.

The main target of Maserati is to provide powerful luxury vehicles while preserving the Italian style. Many of Maserati car models are available to be fitted with bespoke interior and exterior cues.

Maserati brand was founded by Alfieri Maserati which used to build GP cars for Diatto, along with his four brothers. As of 1926, Diatto stopped production of racing prototypes. This way, the first Maserati model was thrown into light. In the same year, a Maserati model driven by its designer, Alfieri, won the Targa Florio race. Right after, the company evolved and started producing racing vehicles featuring between 4 and 12-cylinder engines. The 16-cylinder units were made by parallel-mounting of two straight-8 blocks.

When the company was sold to the Orsi family, the headquarters was moved to Modena. In 1939 and 1940, Maserati won the Indianapolis 500 race with an 8CTF model, remaining the only Italian manufacturer to manage the feat.

The 1957 Maserati 3500 GT was the brand’s first grand tourer and first production series vehicle, after the company quit racing in the same year. The car featured a 3.5-liter, 6-cylinder engine, entirely inspired from similar unit built for racing. Five years later, the 3500GT was upgraded into the Sebring model.

Citroen bought the Maserati brand in 1968 and provided a strong financial backbone which helped the luxury manufacturer to develop newer, more powerful models, including the Maserati Indy, Merak and Quattroporte II.

The Italian state bought back Maserati from Citroen, and production was shifted from mid-engine sportscars to more appealing RWD coupes, such as the Maserati biturbo. As of 1993, Maserati came under Fiat ownership, where the Maserati Coupe, Spyder then the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models were born.
