Volkswagen Wins "Golden Drop of Oil 2008" Award for Energy and Environment
Wolfsburg, 27 June 2008 -- Volkswagen has won the international competition "Golden Drop of Oil 2008" for its innovative engine-gearbox combination, the powerful 90 kW TSI engine and the new 7-speed DSG gearbox. The energy and environment prize is awarded annually by the German automobile club "Kraftfahrer-Schutz e. V. (KS)". The club awards this prize for technical developments in passenger cars which make a significant contribution towards reducing fuel consumption and safeguarding the environment.
The jurors honoured the two new technical developments from Volkswagen as an intelligent combination which, together, achieve noticeable savings in fuel and emissions. It was emphasised that this technology is used in numerous models from the compact class through the small car segment.
ArvinMeritor Honored with New Detroit’s 2008 Corporate ‘Closing the Gap’ Award
TROY, Mich., June 18, 2008 — ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM) announced today that it received the 2008 Corporate ‘Closing the Gap’ Award from New Detroit, a coalition of local community, business and labor leaders.
ArvinMeritor was honored for its economic and philanthropic support of the Southwestern/Fort Street community; specifically, Detroit’s Southwestern High School. The company has contributed to the construction of new facilities at the high school such as a new football field and all-weather track, as well as a renovation of the performing arts theater; created cooperative education programs; and funded scholarship and internship programs with Kettering University for Southwestern High School students.

Rab MacDonald Presented Jim Clark Memorial Award for 2008
BENALUP, Spain, 07 May, 2008 -- One of the unsung heroes of the motor racing world has been recognised. Rab MacDonald was presented with the Jim Clark Memorial Award for 2008 in recognition of his commitment to the sport.
In a career spanning more than four decades Rab has travelled the world as the MSA Scrutineer and FIA Technical Delegate. Alongside his wife Sheila, Rab from Lasswade, near Edinburgh, was presented with the trophy at a ceremony in Benalup, Spain, on Saturday night.
Ford Motor Company Celebrates 10th Annual Ford Freedom Award
DEARBORN, Mich., May 6, 2008 – Coretta Scott King and Dr. Dorothy Height were honored this evening as this year’s recipients of the Ford Freedom Award for their outstanding achievements at the 10th annual program.
The two were heralded at a dinner at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Ford’s partner in the program. Coretta Scott King, the “First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement,” received the Ford Freedom Award posthumously; and Dr. Dorothy Height, Chair and President Emerita of the National Council of Negro Women, was named the Ford Freedom Award Scholar.
Two Car of the Year Awards to Volvo Cars Thailand
Apr 14, 2008 -- At the Car of the Year ceremony held in conjunction with the Bangkok International Motor Show, Volvo Cars received two awards - in the "Best Advanced Technology" category for exceptional innovations in the field of safety (Volvo S80 3.2) and for "Best Luxury SUV" (Volvo XC90 D5).
Both the award-winning cars could be seen on the Volvo stand at the Bangkok Motor Show together with the Volvo C30 1.8 F E85 and Volvo ReCharge Concept. The stand was visited by Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mr Suwit Kunkitti.
“Öko-Trend” Awards smart fortwo mhd Environmental Certificate for Cars
Stuttgart -- Feb 06, 2008 -- The German “Öko-Trend” environmental research institute has awarded its environmental certificate for cars to the smart fortwo micro hybrid drive (mhd). In extensive analyses by experts from the Wuppertal-based independent institute the smart fortwo mhd scored top marks for all environment-related criteria.
According to the institute’s findings, the 52 kW (71 bhp) petrol variant which has been available in certain markets since October 2007 scores excellent ratings in terms of fuel consumption, exhaust and noise emissions. The manufacturer’s ecological credentials are also found to be exemplary with regard to production, procurement, logistics and recycling.

Ford Mondeo Is Awarded Top Gear Family Car of 2007
BRENTWOOD, Essex, 15 January, 2008 – It takes something very special to impress the Top Gear team but the crew were unanimous in their decision to name Ford’s Mondeo as their 2007 Family Car of the Year.
Presenting the accolade at Top Gear's annual awards, they said: “The Ford Mondeo is the only car that we could all agree on, including the Stig.
“The Ford Mondeo is a fantastic car. It’s practical, has a good choice of engines, very comfy and great to drive, so it’s a worthy winner of the 2007 Top Gear Family Car award.”
Roelant de Waard, managing director, Ford of Britain, collected the trophy from Jeremy Clarkson at an awards dinner in London. "And we don't need to hear anything from you," said Jeremy as the Mondeo is a great car that speaks for itself!".
