2008-08-11 -- Dr. Larry Burns, GM Vice President Research & Development and Strategic Planning, today (12 August) met with scientists at Melbourne’s Bionic Ear Institute to pay tribute to the innovators who helped him to hear again.

Dr. Burns, who is a cochlear implant user, met with Professor Graeme Clark, who led the team which invented the device, and Professor Rob Shepherd, Director of the Bionic Ear Institute.

Dr. Burns is the man behind GM’s worldwide ‘reinvention’ of the automobile around advanced propulsion, electronics, telematics, and materials technologies - including the Chevrolet Volt electric car.

2008-08-04 -- Private customers can now buy dual fuel LPG-powered Holden Commodores for as little as $400 more than their petrol equivalents. This follows the announcement today that GM Holden is reducing the recommended retail pricing on all its new LPG Commodores by $1500.

GM Holden’s support involves the introduction of a Homework Club in the Northern Territory and provides Learning for Life scholarships for primary school students in South Australia and Victoria.

The Homework Club is a program designed to enable students of Moulden Park School and Neighbourhood Centre to fully participate in their education. Moulden is a suburb of Palmerston, situated 20 minutes from Darwin.

DETROIT, 2008-07-01 – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) today announced June sales results, highlighted by an 8 percent rise in retail car sales and continued strong performance in crossovers. Despite the significant decline of industry market volume and the limited availability of some of GM’s most popular models, GM dealers in the United States delivered 265,937 vehicles in June, down 8 percent (18.5 percent unadjusted). Truck sales declined 6 percent.

2008-06-20 -- GM Holden announced today that after over 35 years of service, Rod Keane, Executive Director – Manufacturing will retire effective 1 September. Rod has enjoyed an impressive career with GM Holden, joining the company in 1972.

During his time with GM Holden he has overseen some extraordinary change, perhaps the most significant being the consolidation of the company’s domestic vehicle assembly operations from facilities across the country to a single vehicle assembly plant at Elizabeth, South Australia.

Rod became Assembly Plant Manager at Elizabeth at the age of 34 and in 1987, was instrumental in converting the plant from a single shift operation to double shift, representing a significant expansion in capacity.
