An Octane Blue-colored 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is set to feature prominently in the Steven Soderbergh-directed espionage/action film “Haywire” – starring mixed martial artist Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas – debuting in theaters nationwide in January 2012.

Always up for a challenge, the 2012 model “Evo” is powered by an exceptionally powerful 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged and intercooled 4-cylinder engine that produces a stout 291 horsepower. This 4B11 T/C engine boasts numerous high-performance design elements including MIVEC variable valve timing for both the intake and exhaust camshafts and a cast-aluminum block and head. Always eager to rev (redline occurs at 7,000 rpm), this turbocharged powerplant provides instantaneous power at virtually any rpm.

Mitsubishi engineers have endowed the Japanese auto manufacturer’s fabulous four-wheel creation with state-of-the-art driving dynamics that allow the Lancer Evolution exceptional levels of both tarmac-grabbing traction and handling prowess. These systems include Mitsubishi’s remarkable Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC), a 4-wheel-drive Active Center Differential (ACD) accompanied by an Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, a helical gear-type limited-slip front differential, Active Stability Control (ASC) and Sport ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

Working seamlessly in concert with each other, these advanced active driver aids make for a memorable driving experience for the accomplished driver, amateur racer or anyone who appreciates an enthusiastic outing from behind the wheel.

Yokohama ADVAN asymmetrical performance tires that provide a high level of adhesion round out this agile performance package.

The 2012 Lancer Evolution MR edition raises the performance bar for Mitsubishi’s premier sports sedan to an even loftier level with the addition of the company’s remarkably advanced, ultra-quick-shifting 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) that allows the driver to toggle rapidly through the gears via magnesium-alloy steering wheel paddle shifters or the shift lever. Additional sporting enhancements include an upgraded suspension featuring Bilstein® shock absorbers and Eibach® springs, 2-piece Brembo® front brake rotors, BBS® forged alloy wheels and xenon HID headlamps. Luxury amenities include a 710-watt Rockford-Fosgate® premium audio system with a 6-CD/MP3-compatible head unit with 9 speakers (including a trunk-mounted 10-in. subwoofer) and a 3-month pre-paid subscription to SIRIUS® satellite radio; leather/suede seating surfaces (including the racing-inspired RECARO® front bucket seats); and FAST-Key electronic keyless entry and engine starting system.

Like the GSR model, the MR receives a new soft-touch door panel treatment as well as the Bluetooth® hands-free phone operation with USB input.

In addition to their advanced traction and stability-control-related performance systems, all Lancer Evolution models include a full compliment of safety features including a dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, and a driver’s knee air bag.
