Aston Martin Lagonda Limited, or better known as just Aston Martin, represents a British luxury carmaker. The main focus of Aston Martin targets sportscars and grand tourers with high level of comfort and luxury.
Aston Martin was founded in London, back in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Since 1964, the brand has been associated with British fictional character James Bond. During the filming of Goldfinger movie, the British spy James Bond is recorded driving an Aston Martin DB5 model. Furthermore, Aston Martin models are regarded and British icons, allowing the automaker to obtain a Royal Warrant as motorcars purveyor for the royal family. The Royal Warrant was released in 182 by the Prince of Wales.
The English automaker founds its way into the Grand Prix World in 1922. Aston Martin cars used 16-valve twin cam engine units to not only compete in races but also to take down world records in top speed and endurance. Most records were recorded at Brooklands.
Only 55 cars were made based on the record-breaking specs and were sold in long and short-chassis configurations. Shortly afterwards, in 1926, Aston Martin went bankrupt. However, the company was brought back to life under a different management and with technical director Bertelli in charge of designs, the automaker released some of the greater models of the era: T-type, International, Le Mans and MKII. Most of the units sold featured short-chassis, two-seat cars with an open top, with only a small portion featuring four-seat touring design.
Ford took over Aston Martin and ramped up production with new manufacturing technologies, pumping up production numbers up to 700 in 1995. The Aston Martin DB was extended through 1998 and 2002, with 2000 and 6000 models being built to that date, respectively.
As of 2005, the Aston Martin Racing division had two units competing in the GT class of Endurance Racing championship, including the famous 24 Hours of LeMans.
