Body and interior
The A6 features an expressive design with generous dimensions. Its spacious interior, with its refined lines and perfect fit and finish, has the feel of a luxury lounge. Audi also offers the A6 sedan with two leather-covered individual seats in the back. A bundle of high-tech measures ensures excellent soundproofing.

Drivetrain and suspension
One of the great strengths of the Audi A6 is its wide range of engine options. Audi offers five gasoline engines and four diesel units with four, six or eight cylinders – all featuring direct injection with cutting-edge FSI, TFSI, and TDI technologies. The 2.8 liter, V6 gasoline engine is equipped with the Audi valvelift system for greater torque.

One very interesting engine is the 3.0 TFSI with 213 kW (290 hp). The three-liter V6 is supercharged and consistently delivers 420 Nm (309.78 lb-ft) of torque across a wide range of engine speeds. Yet the powerful V6 averages just 9.4 liters per 100 km (25.02 US mpg).

The efficiency champion of the model line is the Audi A6 2.0 TDI e, which relies on a two-liter diesel generating 100 kW (136 hp) and 320 Nm (236.02 lb-ft) of torque. Its average consumption is 5.3 liters per 100 km (44.38 mpg). The body of the e-model is 20 millimeters (0.79 in) lower; the two upper gears of the transmission feature a longer gear ratio. The standard recuperation system further improves efficiency.

The engines:

* 2.0 TFSI with 125 kW (170 hp)
* 2.8 FSI and 2.8 FSI quattro with 140 kW (190 hp)
* 2.8 FSI and 2.8 FSI quattro with 162 kW (220 hp)
* 3.0 TFSI quattro with 213 kW (290 hp)
* 4.2 FSI quattro with 257 kW (350 hp)
* 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TDI e with 100 kW (136 hp)
* 2.0 TDI with 125 kW (170 hp)
* 2.7 TDI and 2.7 TDI quattro with 140 kW (190 hp)
* 3.0 TDI quattro with 176 kW (240 hp)

Power from the engine flows to the front wheels – or to all four wheels – via a six-speed manual transmission, the user-friendly tiptronic, or the continuously variable multitronic. For all engine versions developing a minimum of 140 kW (190 hp), Audi offers quattro all-wheel drive as an option; it is standard with the three most powerful V6 engines.

Chassis and equipment
The chassis of the A6 – featuring a four-link front suspension and trapezoidal-link rear suspension – combines distinct sportiness with supreme comfort. Audi offers its large model with the optional adaptive air suspension. The driver can switch among four settings to alter the adaptive dampers’ performance and characteristics.

Modern assistance systems make driving even more relaxing. Audi side assist helps the driver to change lanes. Additional high-end technologies include Audi lane assist, which helps to keep the car in its lane, and the radar-assisted adaptive cruise control, which maintains a steady distance between the A6 and the vehicle ahead. The multimedia systems also impress with similarly sophisticated technology.

In the top model, the MMI navigation plus, the speedy graphics chip raises the bar, as does the seven-inch color display and the 40 GB hard drive for navigation, music, and telephone data.

The Audi A6 allroad quattro
Derived from the A6 Avant, the A6 allroad quattro is at home on any terrain, and comes with powerful engines to deal with any conditions. Its engine lineup comprises two gasoline and two TDI engines.
