A natural dynamism

Barely six months after its launch, the 2008 Peugeot 308 hatchback range evolves with the arrival of the 1.6 litre THP 128 kW engine (≈ 175 bhp). Available depending on country in Premium Pack (five door) and Féline (three and five door) top of the range finishes, the 308 models powered by this engine will appeal to a very dynamic and demanding clientele in search of driving pleasure but less inclined towards sporty extravagance, excess or ostentation.

The 1.6 litre THP 175 is coupled with a new well tuned smooth and precise six speed manual gearbox.

In keeping with the efficiency of the gearbox, the new Peugeot 308 stands out from others in terms of its exterior appearance with a subtly more elegant lower front panel, the adoption of a rear spoiler and a lower ride height. Inside the car, the presence of aluminium finishes (gear lever knob, pedal bracket and footrest) and a special steering wheel enhance the feel of the passenger compartment already a great example of motoring refinement.

Incorporated in last years 207 RC, this 1.6 litre THP engine, designed by PSA Peugeot Citroën in collaboration with the BMW Group, develops a maximum power of 128 kW at 6000 rpm and stands out in particular by its generous torque of 240 Nm (or 260 with overboost) from the very lowest engine speeds (1600 rpm).

This specification allows the 308 to achieve a very good level of performance while offering very low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in relation to its power (7.6 litres / 100 km in the combined cycle and 180 g/km respectively). This Peugeot 308 adheres to the principles of environmental efficiency which have governed the “T7” programme since its inception.

Indeed this 11th power train in the Peugeot 308 family enhances even further a range of engines (all four cylinder with two camshafts and 16 valves) that is at once modern, efficient, economical and environmentally friendly.

The 308 petrol models benefit from the very latest engines developed via the collaboration between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the BMW Group.
- 1.4 litre VTi 70 kW (≈ 95 bhp), 136 Nm, 5 speed manual gearbox
- 1.6 litre VTi 88 kW (≈ 120 bhp), 160 Nm, 5 speed manual gearbox
- 1.6 litre VTi 88 kW (≈ 120 bhp), 160 Nm, 4 speed automatic gearbox
- 1.6 litre THP 110 kW (≈ 150 bhp), 240 Nm, 5 speed manual gearbox
- 1.6 litre THP 103 kW (≈ 140 bhp), 240 Nm, 4 speed automatic gearbox
- 1.6 litre THP 128 kW (≈ 175 bhp), 240-260 Nm, 6 speed manual gearbox

The 308 HDi models benefit from engines all incorporating the latest HDi direct injection technology:
- 1.6 litre HDi with or without FAP 66 kW (≈ 90 bhp), 215 Nm, 5 speed manual gearbox
- 1.6 litre HDi FAP 80 kW (≈ 110 bhp), 240-260 Nm, 6 speed manual gearbox
- 1.6 litre HDi FAP 80 kW (≈ 110 bhp), 240-260 Nm, 6 speed electronically controlled gearbox
- 2.0 litre HDi FAP 100 kW (≈ 136 bhp), 320-340 Nm, 6 speed manual gearbox
- 2.0 litre HDi FAP 100 kW (≈ 136 bhp), 320-340 Nm, 6 speed automatic gearbox

In addition to this rigorous engine specification, combined with a suspension offering road holding of the very highest order, customers of this version, like any 308 owner, will benefit from:

- incomparable comfort and convenience inside the car, thanks to its semi-tall architecture combining brightness (accentuated by the panoramic glass roof), visibility (4.86 m2 glazed surface area) and capacity, not forgetting its fluid and elegant fascia panel, its quality of workmanship and its excellent acoustics…

- optimal safety thanks to its structure, comprising in particular a triple absorption channel, seven air bags as standard (or nine when the two rear side air bags are present) and, according to countries, the “Peugeot Emergency” system which pinpoints the vehicle’s location in the event of an accident when equipped with the RT4 telematics system.

- many features enhancing comfort and safety, either optional or as standard according to ranges, such as the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), directional bi-xenon headlamps, dual zone air conditioning, fragrance diffuser, etc.
