SUV Style and Mid-van Capability

The rugged look of an SUV and the utility of a mid-van – Pontiac’s all-new SV6 crossover sport van delivers on both counts with a package of sporty styling, responsive performance, superior quality and segment-leading in-vehicle entertainment choices.

Montana SV6 is Pontiac’s latest in an expanding portfolio of new products, including the 2004 Grand Prix, Bonneville GXP, GTO, the refreshed 2005 Vibe, the all-new 2005 G6 sedan and the upcoming 2006 Solstice roadster. All of these vehicles exemplify the division’s renewed spirit of performance. Pontiac’s performance renaissance incorporates responsive driving dynamics, a bold and distinctive design language, and refined interior and exterior appointments.

"The Montana SV6 has the best attributes of SUVs - aggressive styling and a powerful stance - and the convenience of a van, including a low step-in height, interior versatility and dual power-sliding rear doors," said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "It also has the sporty character and attributes that have made Pontiac's other crossover vehicle, the Vibe, resonate so strongly with customers."

Expressive design – one of the keys to Pontiac’s product renaissance – is seen in the Pontiac-signature dual-port grille front-end styling. Similar attention to detail is found throughout the interior, such as in the performance appearance of the instruments and superior materials, including chrome appointments on the door handles and instrument cluster, and brushed chrome accents on the center stack and steering wheel.

The Montana SV6’s “best of both worlds” features include:

* Expressive SUV styling cues

Responsive powertrain and chassis systems

The new 3500 3.5L V-6 powers the SV6. Rated at 200 hp (149 kw) and 220 lb.-ft. of torque (298 Nm), the engine delivers the enthusiastic performance expected of a Pontiac. Excellent launch feel and highway-speed acceleration were key parameters during the engine’s development, as were reduced noise and vibration, improved fuel economy, reliability, low emissions and superior highway range from a tank of gas.

The 3500 engine is mated to the Hydra-Matic 4T65-E four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, which provides smooth, almost seamless shifts. Electronic safeguards built into the transmission ensure trouble-free performance. When properly equipped, a Montana SV6 can tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg). Versatrak all-wheel drive is optional.

GM’s exclusive Versatrak all-wheel-drive system is lightweight, quiet and efficient. The on-demand system is one of the most advanced approaches to all-wheel drive. If one or both front wheels lose grip, the Versatrak system goes into action progressively, with no buttons to push or levers to throw. The system is poised to help drivers make use of the traction available by not only transferring torque from front to rear, but also from side to side between the rear wheels – an ability not found in many competitive systems.

The Montana SV6’s powertrain is nestled into a chassis with cross-rail reinforcements that not only enhance stiffness, but bolster crash protection. Attached to the chassis are a MacPherson-strut front suspension and a twist-beam rear axle with integrated stabilizer bar. Seventeen-inch wheels and tires are standard, enhancing the SUV-like appearance of the vehicle. New, large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard, while GM’s sophisticated StabiliTrak vehicle stability enhancing system is optional.

StabiliTrak assists the vehicle in maintaining the driver’s intended path by applying a brake force at any corner of the vehicle independent of the driver’s use of the brake pedal. StabiliTrak uses an accelerator pedal position sensor, a brake master cylinder pressure sensor and a steering wheel angle sensor as inputs to interpret the driver’s desired path and whether to accelerate or decelerate the vehicle. StabiliTrak also uses these sensors plus a lateral accelerometer and yaw rate sensor to determine the vehicle’s actual path. If the difference between the driver’s desired path and the vehicle’s actual path becomes great enough, StabiliTrak takes appropriate action to assist the driver with maintaining the desired path. If the vehicle begins to “snowplow,” or understeer, StabiliTrak applies the inside rear brake to help turn the vehicle. If the vehicle begins to fishtail, or oversteer, StabiliTrak applies the outside front brake to straighten the vehicle. StabiliTrak is integrated with the traction control and ABS systems.
Highly refined interior

The SV6 interior features low-gloss, high-quality materials and a host of clever storage and seating options. The second- and third-row seats are foldable and removable. The third-row seat features a 50/50 split and the cushions fold to create a flat load floor. There is up to 136.5 cubic feet (3,865L) of cargo space in the vehicle.

Other storage details include an overhead rail system, which integrates rear HVAC, audio controls, lighting and the rear-seat entertainment/DVD system in a single unit.

Snap-in storage and accessory modules provide more flexible storage options for the system. The Montana SV6 also offers a flexible rear convenience center/cargo system, which provides covered storage for a variety of personal items and creates a flat load floor when the third-row seats are folded.

Seat-back storage is generous, which helps keep the Montana SV6 tidy. Convenience trays in the second- and third-row seats have many uses and have built-in cupholders.
PhatNoise leads entertainment choices

The Montana SV6’s range of available in-vehicle entertainment choices is unprecedented. From XM Satellite Radio to the standard DVD player with flip-down screen and integrated controls, long drives pass more enjoyably.

XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) provides more than 120 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original commercial-free music and premier news, sports and talk as well as advanced traffic and weather information for select major metropolitan areas nationwide. Consumers can subscribe to the basic service for $9.99 a month. In addition, GM customers with GMAC financing can choose to include the XM subscription in their car payments.

Also available is the first-in-segment Mobile Digital Media Powered by PhatNoise system. PhatNoise is a wallet-sized, 40-gigabyte hard drive cartridge that installs in the Montana SV6’s overhead rail system. The system’s capabilities include:

* Storing and playing back up to 10,000 songs in MP3, WMA or WAV formats
* Storing and playing up to 40 movies in MPEG format (standard format for movies)
* Storing and playing a combination of songs and movies
* The ability to provide the software for playing classic video games
* A voice-browsing interface – if the driver wants to listen to music, the system tells him or her over the radio speakers the song’s name, allowing the driver to navigate through a list of stored music using steering wheel buttons
* Listening to books, magazine or newspaper articles recorded on a PC
* Allowing simultaneous listening to two entertainment sources
* Transferring digital camera pictures through a USB port in the PhatNoise cartridge and playing them back on the DVD screen

The PhatNoise system’s hard drive cartridge is easily removable, so it can be connected to a home PC or laptop to download computer files for playback in the Montana SV6, giving passengers an unprecedented level of entertainment customization.
Safety and quality built in

The SV6 is engineered to be among the safest vehicles in its segment. The frame is designed to achieve effective crush, helping preserve occupant space while absorbing energy. The front-end compartment provides crush space, while the reinforced engine compartment side frame rails increase energy absorption during frontal impacts. This design is conducive for crash compatibility. The extensive use of high-strength steel is behind many of its structural enhancements.

Safety belts remain the primary and most effective form of occupant protection. All seating positions in the 2005 Montana SV6 have three-point safety belts. The SV6 also has dual-stage frontal air bags for supplemental protection for front seat passengers. Dual-stage frontal air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of air bag-induced injury. When the air bag system’s control unit detects an impact, it determines whether the crash is severe enough to trigger a deployment, and whether the primary amount of inflation is sufficient. The primary stage alone will deploy in most frontal impacts requiring the supplemental protection of an air bag, while a secondary stage is designed to deploy in more severe frontal collisions.

The optional seat-mounted side-impact air bags provide head and thoracic protection for both the front passenger and the driver. When the bag deploys in a moderate to severe side impact, it is angled somewhat toward the window to help provide protection for front- and rear-seat outboard passengers.

Montana SV6 also has pretensioners in the front safety belt system that deploy at the same time as the frontal air bags to take up slack in the safety belt webbing. Pretensioners also help reduce the amount of occupant movement in the event of a crash to help reduce the risk of injury.

Montana SV6 is equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system anchors for child safety seats. This system provides two lower anchors and a top tether anchor to be used to secure a child seat to the vehicle seat structure. These anchorages are designed to make it easier to properly install compatible child safety seats.

OnStar-equipped SV6 models feature new sixth-generation hardware with digital and analog coverage. OnStar’s Gen 6 hardware also includes upgraded hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the United States and Canada. Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Personal Calling that allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls using a powerful 3-watt digital/analog system and external antenna for greater reception.

The Montana SV6 is produced at the GM Doraville Assembly Plant near Atlanta– a plant recognized for building the best initial quality mid-vans in America. For two years in a row, GM Doraville ranked as the No. 1 plant in its segment in terms of productivity, according to The Harbour Report North America 2003 and The Harbour Report North America 2002.
